The technological developments of the last few years offer ample opportunities to increase community involvement. AR and VR (Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality) allow local residents to view the developed area virtually first before a shovel has gone into the ground.
We are proud to announce that we have answered to these technological developments within SitePodium. In our most recent update we support 360° photo and video. It is possible to upload them to your project timeline and display them to followers.
Involvement from the community as a starting point
Stimulating community involvement has always been an important starting point for the development of SitePodium in 2013. In subsequent years this has always served as the basis for developing new functionality. After all, when you involve the community in your plans, a broader basis for support is developed.
The Chinese philosopher Confucius beautifully articulated this principle more than 2500 years ago with this impressive quote:
Tell me and I will forget, show me and I may remember; involve me and I will understand.
Community and walk-in meetings often are organised around presenting the plans for the upcoming changes within the community. Stakeholders are shown beautiful presentations via projectors that display carefully crafted designs. They are essential steps for any project communication, but to what extent do you really allow the audience to get fully involved?
This is a question that continues to occupy us. With that in mind, we started looking at the possibilities for functionality that makes it possible to upload 360° photos and videos. Project followers can now enter your construction site virtually with their smartphone in hand. In this way it really turns into an experience!
How to place 360° photos or videos in SitePodium?
You can add your 360° photo or video to an update in the usual way via the SitePodium admin portal. On the right of the optional title of your file you will find a slider that you must tick: “360 degrees?”.
Your project followers can recognise your 360° photo or video in their timeline by the centered 360° label. When a 360° photo is opened, it can be moved from all angles by swiping. With the compass icon selected you achieve the same thing, but then by moving your device in the desired direction. The photo can also be displayed in full screen, with the rightmost icon selected.
You must first upload your 360° video must first be uploaded via YouTube. Followers can click on videos from the timeline and then watch them directly via YouTube.
